We recently emailed members a survey seeking interest and feedback on a variant of Cohousing called the Pocket Neighbourhood.
The idea was that members would choose to purchase (over time) a house or an apartment in a particular street, or in a specific apartment block. In this way, we would establish a community of like-minded people within a limited geographic area so that we can stay connected and supportive.
- 73% of respondents were interested in moving to a Pocket Neighbourhood.
- The most important criteria for choosing a Pocket Neighbourhood were:
- Close to transport (within 400m)
- Quiet Street/low traffic street
- Not in aeroplane flight path
- Within 600m of a supermarket
- Most respondents were willing to pay between $1.5 and 3 million.
Some members have expressed interest in establishing a ‘Pocket Neighbourhood’ in the coming development, ‘The Rozelle Village’ (the old Tigers site). This development has now been approved, and it is expected that display suites (accessible from Darling Street) will be open soon.
